A lot is happening still, so I have few words to type, though luckily I should have more than enough media to make up for it. Most of it consisting of the drill base creation process.

Quite a long time was spent floundering around trying to create a tripod base for the drill, like some of the reference I was using.

(IIrc, this is was used for the purpose of blast mining, by allowing high explosives to be inserted inside the bore hole.)

A quadropodal design would certainly be harder to place down once created, but it would be far easier to create.

To start, I made a cube rotated 45 degrees with a mirror modifier.

It isn't shown here, but the y axis was also mirrored, so that I only had to deal with a single leg, and it would transfer over to the other 3.

Next, I extruded the only real leg (the others were copies), before starting to taper the widths.

Here, I gradually lower the leg segments so that that they end at a sharp edge.

Then, I pinched and merged together the top vertices to create a triangular shape, whether for purely aesthetic purposes, or for another reason that I'll make up at some point.

Because this is a drill, after all, I wanted a through hole for the drill shaft to be put through, so I went and shaped the center to accommodate that.

After creating an octagonal shape to more believably house the drill shaft, and after doing some more negligible changes, this is the current look of the base.

(Some minor annoyances came into play when I realized some of the vertices got misaligned somehow, far after the possibility of just undoing it with ctrl+z.)

I'm fairly happy with the result, but I this'll no doubt need some editing when I make the rest.

That "rest" I speak of can take a few forms, but at least sound-wise, I like the idea of using pneumatic-type effects. Freesound.org has a lot of those which are even public domain.
